The Cayman Islands is a three-island archipelago in the northwest Caribbean Sea and situated approximately 500 miles (800 km) south of Miami, Florida. Discovered in 1503 by Christopher Columbus on his fourth and final voyage to the “New World”, it is home to approximately 60,000 people.

The Cayman Islands remained largely uninhabited until the 17th century. While there is no archaeological evidence for an indigenous people on the islands, a variety of settlers from various backgrounds made their home here. These settlers included shipwrecked sailors, and deserters from Oliver Cromwell’s army in Jamaica. The current population are mostly made of British and African descent. The islands are a British Overseas Territory.
Over the last three decades, the Cayman Islands have developed into one of the leading financial centers in the world. Tourism has also flourished and the Cayman Islands are now one for the most popular Caribbean destinations for both stay-over visitors and cruise tourists.

The Caymanian people have a reputation as one of the friendliest in the world and many visitors develop lasting relationships, returning each year to visit their Cayman friends.
